How to read a Ziwei chart: palaces, stars and the four connected palaces
Verify the birth inputs and calculation conventions first. Then move from the palace question to its star combination, connected palaces, transformations and timing layers. This public synthetic example shows how to ask questions that can be checked against a chart.

Calculate my Ziwei chart1. Confirm the chart and timing layer
Check the calendar, leap month, birth time, longitude and bureau convention. Separate the natal chart from decade and annual layers. This project takes the natal year stem from the Four Pillars year, bounded by Start of Spring; other Ziwei calculators may use Lunar New Year. Palace and star placement also depend on lunar month and day and corrected birth hour. Resolve boundary inputs before interpreting the stars.
2. Treat palaces as coordinates for a question
Life is a starting point for overall tendencies; Wealth concerns acquiring and using resources, Career concerns work and responsibilities, and Travel concerns external environments. Siblings, Spouse, Children, Health, Friends, Property, Wellbeing and Parents provide other perspectives. A palace name does not guarantee an event. Health palace cannot diagnose disease, and Spouse palace alone cannot establish a relationship’s future.
3. Read combinations before a single-star conclusion
Identify the fourteen principal stars, then inspect supporting stars, challenging stars, brightness and transformations. The teaching chart has Ju Men in Life at Hai, with Wen Qu in the same palace. This can motivate a traditional discussion of expression, analysis and communication; it does not establish conflict or a particular profession. A palace with no principal star still has a stem, other stars and relationships with its opposite palace. It is not an empty life domain.

Calculate my Ziwei chart4. Place the focal palace among its connected palaces
From Life, the trine includes Wealth and Career; add the opposite Travel palace to obtain the four positions considered here. The example highlights all four. Hai, Mao and Wei form the branch trine, with Si opposite Hai. Find each palace in the actual chart: Wealth is not a fixed earthly branch. Choosing a different focal palace requires locating its own trine and opposite again.

5. Identify a transformation’s source and destination
For the example’s Geng natal year, Tai Yang carries Lu, Wu Qu Quan, Tai Yin Ke and Tian Tong Ji. Find each star’s palace before discussing relationships. A transformation attaches to a star rather than permanently grading an entire palace. Natal, palace-stem, decade and annual transformations have different sources; adding their counts into a simple “more Ji means worse” score discards that distinction.
6. Ask a question with stated conditions
Describe the structure first: for example, “How might this Life–Wealth–Career–Travel combination be discussed in relation to communication and work, and which points depend on timing layers?” Separate chart observations, traditional interpretation and real-world evidence. A full reading needs counterexamples and uncertainty rather than a lifelong verdict from one star. Continue with your own calculated chart; this teaching example is not your personal result.
