BaZi Luck Cycles Calculator: Da Yun and Annual Pillars
Da Yun provides a traditional ten-year framework; annual pillars provide a year-by-year reference. Start with your birth details and check the timing basis before interpreting a year.

- Forward or backward direction from birth-year stem polarity and sex.
- The solar-term boundary, day interval and converted years and months used for the start.
- Age ranges for each cycle and selectable years with their stem-branch and Ten God relationships.
Enter birth time in UTC+8. Convert overseas times and historical daylight saving first; see the rules above.
Time and calculation rules on this page
Clock time is treated as UTC+8 with a 120°E reference meridian, then corrected for birth longitude and the equation of time. The day pillar changes at corrected midnight; the month pillar follows solar-term boundaries. For births elsewhere, first convert the time to UTC+8 and correct historical daylight saving. This page does not detect overseas time zones or daylight saving automatically.

What are luck cycles and annual pillars?
Da Yun advances or reverses through the sexagenary sequence from the month pillar, with each cycle covering ten age labels. Annual rows show a calendar year’s stem-branch pair and its stem’s Ten God relationship to the Day Master. Both need the natal chart, season, useful-element reasoning and interactions for context. A Ten God label cannot establish that a particular event will occur.
How is the starting age calculated?
The model runs forward for a yang-year male or yin-year female and backward for a yin-year male or yang-year female. Forward calculation uses the next jie boundary after birth; backward calculation uses the preceding one. Three days convert to one year, and one day to four months. A jie is one of twelve month boundaries, not just any adjacent one of the twenty-four solar terms. Your result identifies the boundary used.
Annual rows are not exact handover dates
Starting-age details retain years and months, but the current cycle table uses the integer starting age. Annual rows map birth year plus an age label to a calendar year. They support annual comparison, not an exact birthday, Start of Spring or moment of transition. Check dates separately near the start of a cycle or a year boundary before drawing timing conclusions.
How a starting age is converted
Synthetic interval for checking the arithmetic; an actual birth date must first determine direction and the relevant Jie boundary.
| Step | Input | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Full days | 7 days | 2 years + 1 day remainder |
| Remainder | 1 day | 4 months |
| Starting age | 7-day interval | 2 years 4 months |
The chart calculates the actual interval, including its finer units. Its annual display uses an integer starting age; do not read the year label as an exact handover date.
Questions before you read
Why can starting ages differ between websites?
Birth time, time zone, solar-term times and conversion conventions can differ. This implementation compares the birth clock time and solar-term boundary using a Beijing-time convention for the start calculation. Overseas births and boundary times especially require checking that basis; age ranges are not exact transition dates.
Can this guarantee a year for wealth or marriage?
No. It provides checkable traditional cycles and relationships, not guaranteed events. Further interpretation still needs reasons, conditions and uncertainty, and should not be the sole basis for financial, medical or major life decisions.

Results describe a traditional interpretive system, not scientifically validated predictions. If the birth time is uncertain, compare adjacent birth hours and avoid treating one label as a fixed conclusion.
