Qi Men Dun Jia Chart Setup: Chai Bu, Three Yuan and Ju Numbers
Follow the production rotating-plate engine through the term, day head and yuan table.
Fixed conventions
This example uses an hourly rotating plate, chai-bu, centre lodged in Kun 2, and Tianqin following Tianrui. Terms use the original absolute instant; day and hour use local solar time.
Input and term
Input 2024-02-04 18:00 +08:00 at 120°E. Production pillars are 甲辰, 丙寅, 戊戌, 辛酉. The instant is after Start of Spring and in the yang-dun half of the year.
Find the day head and yuan
Counting back from 戊戌 to the nearest Jia or Ji day gives 甲午. Wu belongs to the Zi/Wu/Mao/You upper-yuan group. The day head is independent of the term boundary.
Look up the ju
Start of Spring uses yang-dun 8/5/2 for upper/middle/lower yuan, giving ju 8 here. Record differing plate or intercalation methods before comparing calculators. This checks a construction procedure, not prediction performance.
