Given the four pillars of an 八字, assess the strength of the 日主 (the 日干).
Core principle
More support from 印星 and 比劫 generally strengthens the 日主. More control, draining, or expenditure through 财, 官杀, and 食伤 generally weakens it.
Three foundations
- 得令: whether the 日主's 五行 is seasonally supported by 月令.
- 得地: whether the 日主 has roots in the four 地支.
- 得势: whether 印星 and 比劫 provide meaningful support.
月令 carries the greatest weight, but the final judgment must combine all three rather than rely on one factor alone.
